Many people who attend college are student parents. Unlike other students, student parents have to find a balance to fit all of their responsibilities in their life. For a long time, the University of Alaska Anchorage held an on-campus daycare before closing its doors in 2015. The daycare known as Tanaina Daycare helped not only students but faculty members.
The decision to close its doors came after the university decided to renovate the Sports Complex on campus. The daycare was supporting many different resources. Since the shut down of the daycare, the university continues to eliminate more support for student parents, this makes it hard for them to complete their degrees.
The hope is to be able to give student parents a voice on campus, to be able to give them more support to finish their degrees
